Don’t waste YOUR worship!
Worship should matter to us because we are made and always will be a worshipper. It’s what we do. We can’t help it. We can’t stop it. We can’t live without it. But we can CHOOSE where we invest it. We can CHOOSE to make OUR WORSHIP count for eternity!
Earlier today in our staff meeting Pastor Brian asked the question to all of us “who are you?” How would you answer that question? (Before reading the remaining part of this article answer this question to yourself)
We’re created to worship. But WHO or WHAT do we worship?
Who am I? I am a worshipper. It’s an inborn aspect of my life. Through the years of my life I have let the focus of my worship be everything but God. I have worshipped school (believe or not). I have worshipped the opposite sex. I have worshipped family or friends. I have worshipped sports. I have worshipped church and church things. I have worshipped…(the list could go on and on and on)
Truly my DESIRE is to worship God. I want HIM to be the focus of my worship. That means I have to learn how to die to myself and live for Him. There are still times that many other things call for my focus of worship but I MUST allow God to be the only recipient of my worship.
The author I’ve been reading, Louie Giglio says it this way. “You only have one life. And you only have one life of worship. You have one brief opportunity in time to declare your allegiance, to unleash your affection, to exalt something or someone above all else.
Don’t waste your worship on some little god, squandering your birthright on idols made only with human imagination. Guard your worship…and carefully evaluate all potential takers.
To CHOOSE well doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate things of beauty and style. It’s certainly not wrong to deeply love another. Nor is it a sin to value a great job or enjoy an amazing destination.
But when we elevate ANY of these things to the highest place in our hearts, we’ve gone too far.
For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise. He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before Him, strength and glory are in His sanctuary.”
Where is the focus of your worship? Will you strive along with me to let God be the ONLY recipient of our worship?
Lord, you truly are the only one to receive our worship. We commit before you this day to worship YOU and YOU ALONE! Let us constantly die to ourselves in order that you may ALWAYS occupy the throne of our lives!
